"We have to go back... to the future!"

Last year, some radio stations in my town came up with the idea of putting on outdoor movies in this square behind City Hall. Every Thursday they played classics from Casablanca to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. As well as some modern favourites, like the Princess Bride, and E.T.

Last Thursday, they kicked off this year with Back to the Future, and I can't help seeing some similarities in accessories from this Face Hunter guy.

Buttons Galore

These are buttons with all the different tile patterns of the Toronto subway stations.

As a person who likes to collect these kinds of buttons, I appreciate the handy work.

Edit: Buttons available here

Lifestyles of the Young and Hopeful

Okay, I'm going to be the first to admit that my fashion posts are a bit underwhelming. And for that I do apologize. I love talking about fashion, it's the scouring the interweb for post inspiration that's getting me. Every time!

So instead of posting every third week or so, about some other American Apparel clothing item I'm drooling over, I'm going to expand my diary topics.

I think it will be fun.

So to celebrate, a cake:

Or two:

"It's 3 a.m. I'm around the corner wearing my leather..."

Maybe I'm heavily influenced by runway shows, or perhaps I'm simply a strange person, but with summer and warm weather upon us, I can't help but get excited for autumn.

I like autumn. I like the leaves turning colours and the crisp, cold air. I like summer too, but it's never been the best season for my wardrobe.

Anyway, my point is, I'm starting an obsession about leather pants, which I could only logically wear in cold weather.
I, mysteriously, labelled this picture on my computer LFW. I don't remember what designer it stands for, but these pants are my inspiration

Givenchy

However, seeing as actual designer leather pants would not come cheap, I could go an alternative route and get some shiny leggings a la American Apparel.
Well not necessarily to be worn on their own but to give off that sort of illusion of leather.
I think it could be neat. Or would it just not be the same?

I swear

I will post my current inspirations, and some outfits [i.e. some new clothes I bought] as soon as I have time.

Bah I hate afternoon shifts. They eat up my day.

It's summer! You know what that means...

The sun is out and the smell of sunscreen is in the air. At least it better be.
I know everyone has heard the whole song and dance that UV Rays are bad, and we need to wear sunscreen of at least SPF 15 (I'm pretty sure it's 15, but you can't go wrong with something stronger just in case). I understand that it gets tiresome, and that people ignore it. But it's good advice, which I can't stress enough.

I admit I have been bad in my day. I have natural
ly dark olive-y skin, and my mom is under the weird notion (which she heard from some friend of a friend whose father is a doctor, so it's clearly true) that the chemicals in sunscreen could do more harm for you than good. I'm sure it's possible, but I still don't want sun cancer and I sure as hell don't want to look like this as an adult.

You would not believe the amount of people who come into my work with red/dark brown leathery skin. It's so not attractive.

I'd much prefer to look like this:

Your skin can glow without it actually glowing.

We can live like Jack and Sally...

I find these shoes, from Forever 21, to be pretty cool. They're so goth in a Sally from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" way.

Or like "Edward Scissorhands for some weird reason.

Frankly the Victorian Goth look is very pretty to me, but mostly around October, when it's cold enough to pull off layers of lace and black.

Query

Now I hate leggings as much as the next person. They've expanded to form an entire universe of mid-calf hitting ugliness. Becoming a too loud, unnecessary accessory to most mall rat outfits. Polka dots and lace are never a winning combination in one single garment, but that's a specific legging look that I won't elaborate on.

However, I am completely in love with these shiny ones from American Apparel

They look so comfortable. But how can I convince myself that I will wear them enough to consider purchasing them. What would I wear with them? And don't even consider just wearing them as pants. That look is flattering to no one, and I'm sure you'd think twice about it after you saw the middle aged women, I saw at work, rocking them with a pot belly. No way in hell.

Dear readers, I am at your feet.

Movie Character Outfit Re-Creations

Ione Skye as Diane Court in "Say Anything..."

American Apparel version:

I might just have my next Halloween costume, when my boyfriend gets back from Chile in like two years. Hopefully I can convince him to be Lloyd Dobler.
