In the Morning

I've realized it would probably be advantageous to me to get a hair cut. Just from looking at the pictures from my previous post, my hair just looks blah.

Although I'd like it to look like this [and it sometimes does]:

I'd like something along the lines of these:

A pseudo-bob, that's below my chin, slightly longer in the front. Maybe asymmetrical. Side swept bangs... then we're in business.

9 Months

It has been nine months since my last haircut. I don't know if that's considered shocking, but ever since I was little I've always had the pattern of growing my hair really long and then cutting it short to my chin or shoulders. I bet this is a pattern a lot of people follow. It's a pretty safe route to take when it comes to hair. When I last got my hair cut, a few people kept commenting on how brave I was to get it cut so short. 

I suppose in our society long hair is the norm and considered a part of the definition of beauty. That's nothing new, I'm hardly breaking new ground here. A part of me would love to shave my head, but that's also a little drastic [and too derivative of Britney Spears as opposed to say Natalie Portman or Chloe Sevigny back in the day]. 

I think one day I may attempt a pixie cut.

But I am rather attached to my hair. I loved Kori's post on Getting the Perfect Pixie, and I would define myself as a ponytail girl, but I like ponytails for the variation. I could put it up or keep it down, and have a completely different look. Maybe I'm just hard to please. 

My boyfriend isn't into the whole pixie cut idea either. He'd prefer a bob which is also a good choice too. Although, to be honest, if I really wanted a pixie cut, he'd just have to live with it. It is just hair, and it would eventually grow into something like this anyway. 

In the meantime I want to grow my hair out, but I need a trim. My hair isn't as long as Kristen Stewart and Eva Green's here, but I like the choppy layers. 

It's too bad I'm a broke university student. I need to get a job if this strike is going to go on for awhile.

This feels so much better.  The woman behind the counter said I was brave for cutting it all off. Umm I suppose. My hair is so thick, this is just more practical.

Now I have to see what it looks like after I wash it for the first time. 

Chop Chop Part 1

I am finally going to get my haircut! I called and made the appointment myself! I'm a big girl now. 

*Note-this is a pretty huge deal for me considering my silly phone fear. I'm an awkward, nervous, irrational person. But hey one baby step at a time.

Spring can't come soon enough

So my hair has been growing for awhile now; this is the longest it's been in awhile. However, as I've said before, I've been dying to get it cut really short. 

I don't think I'm brave enough to do that, because I like to be able to have some variety, but today I found the perfect cut in an issue of Elle.

Sorry, crappy webcam quality, but it's the best I can do. 

The weather is too cold at the moment, so I'll save up some money and go get it cut when it's warmer. 

Fashion Pet Peeve #1

Well up here in Kingston, school is winding down, and exams begin next week. June 28 is Commencement, and the next day it's formal. Collective woots are in order.

Anyway, the point of this post, is that I need to air a fashion pet peeve of mine, which is the overprocessed hair-do.

I'm sure you guys know what I mean. The shiny, ringlet-y mass of hair that gets piled on top of the heads of girls at proms and formals across the continent.

It's hard to say why this hairstyle bothers me so much. I suppose it's just how unnatural it looks, and the sheer amount of ozone depleting hair spary it took to achieve that look. I myself have never been one to be fussy about my hair, and I don't like doing anything too trendy with it, in fear of looking back at it years from now and smacking my forehead in a "what was I thinking?!" sort of way.

I am quite aware that it is one of those nights where girls like to go all out with their outfit/hair/make-up, but celebrities are a pretty good place to find inspiration, for a non-processed look.

For example I think I'm going to go for this for formal:
It's natural, it's cute, it looks fairly easy to do and it's something different than what I'd usually do with my hair. My theory is that if I put my hair it up, it will be falling out by the end of the night, and if I leave my hair down, I can easily put it up in a messy ponytail or bun later on. Please don't kill me for saying that though...
